Our Story

Three Birds Mediation is a civil and commercial mediation practice founded by Aleem O. Shahid, a noted international dispute resolution lawyer and accredited mediator with substantial experience of complex and high-value cases spanning multiple jurisdictions, numerous industries and business sectors.

We are passionate about resolving disputes with harmony, transparency and fairness. We aim to deliver first-class professional mediation services that empower parties to discover their own solutions to disputes with dignity and mutual respect.

We believe every conflict – no matter how complicated or bitter– holds the possibility of resolution through structured dialogue.

As mediation assumes an increasingly important role in civil justice systems around the world, we also believe mediation should be accessible and affordable for everyone.

We are accredited by the Civil Mediation Council (CMC) in England & Wales and the International Mediation Institute (IMI). We are also members of Scottish Mediation.

As an international dispute resolution lawyer with nearly 20 years of experience in resolving complex, high-value and high-stakes cases across continents, Aleem brings a blend of deep legal insight and practical nous to his role as mediator

With his professional background as a triple-qualified international dispute resolution lawyer who has spent much of his career involved in large commercial and construction cases, Aleem is able to draw on his substantial experience as a trusted adviser and accomplished advocate when mediating disputes.
As a litigator and international arbitration counsel, Aleem has a knack for reaching the core issues in dispute quickly and asking the questions that can open the path towards a settlement.
Aleem’s personal mediation style is amiable and approachable, whilst being candid and firm where necessary:
he can seamlessly adapt his approach as mediator to suit the nature of each case and the needs of the participants. He treats every mediation, big or small, with the same level of thought and dedication in the pursuit of a party-driven resolution.
Aleem is comfortable working with parties in multiple languages and from diverse cultural backgrounds. He speaks English and Urdu/Hindi (fluent), and has a working knowledge of Spanish, Persian, Pashto and Punjabi.
Aleem is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), is registered with the IMI and the CMC (Associate Mediator), and is a member of Scottish Mediation.
